Cheese Please....and Wine Too!

What could be better than cheese, bread and wine? To me not much. This afternoon my friend Emily and I attended a wine and cheese pairing class at this super cute cheese shop in Highland Park Village called Molto Formaggio. I learned a lot about different cheeses and great wines to pair them with. It was such a cute shop and I'll definitely be going back for some tasty cheeses and wine.

We also had an impromptu lesson in trade wars during the tasting. The last round was all blue cheese and most people in the class thought Roquefort would be part of the tasting, but Roquefort's duty will now be 300 percent to come into the U.S. so kiss it goodbye if its your favorite or start planning your trip to France.

What About Bob?

Last night I went to see Bob Schneider, an Austin based muscian, at Granada Theater on Lower Greenville. He plays in the Dallas area pretty often, but I had never seen him so I felt it was time to cross that one off my list. All in all it was a good concert and had a great time with friends!

Valentine's Day Weekend Extravaganzas

For the past few years a group of my friends and I get together for a girls’ night around Valentine's Day. We'll have dinner, dessert and exchange silly Valentine's Day related gifts. This year we had a great dinner at Rio Mambo where I had a drink entitled "An Attitude Adjustment". Go figure! At dinner we commenced the gift exchange and I personally believe I came out with the best gift and one that I had to steal from Brittany. I’m sure she wasn't pleased. My awesome gift is "Grow-A-Date" where I can simply pour water on the gummy figure of a man and he will grow into a date. We can all dream can't we?!?

Let's grow a date!

Me and my special man

After dinner we proceeded to Cowboys - a dance hall that provides some excellent people watching, bull riding and dancing to your favorite country tune. We had a great time and it was fun to celebrate Valentine's Day with friends.

On Saturday night a few friends and I went out for dinner and enjoyed a night of Rock Band! I don't think I'll earn much as a singer, but my cut was better as a bass player.

The band - if you look closely I'm practicing my rocker face; very attractive!

Super Bowl Commercials - Oh Dear!

While I do enjoy football I usually don't get too excited about the Super Bowl unless there is a team playing that I like. Since I didn't really follow the Steelers or Cardinals this year I paid little attention to the game, but more so on the commercials. Given that I work in marketing/advertising I look forward to what's in store on the commercial front.

Sadly, I was pretty disappointed this year. Every other commercial was for a car and usually the beer commercials can pick up the slack, but they were by far the worst. All of us watching the game kept asking why are the Budweiser commercials so bad this year. The answer a friend of mine gave was Budweiser is now owned by a Belgium company. Now whether or not their ownership is the problem remains to be discovered, but either way that's an area to work on.

I did have two that I really liked so I wanted to share my picks. The first is the Doritos Crystal Ball commercial. I nearly fell out of my chair at this one. If only our dreams could come true by launching a snow globe.

The second favorite was the Careerbuilder commercial. We were all wondering if Careerbuilder would come through this year. In the past few Super Bowls they have had some of the best commercials so I was waiting with anticipation to see if they would have one and to my satisfaction they did. This was the favorite out of the group especially the question of "do you daydream of punching small animals?". Oh dear!
